GA Cup Recap: U-17’s Suffer 6-3 Loss to Valencia

TFCA U17

The U-17 Kia Toronto FC Academy suffered a 6-3 defeat against Spanish side Valencia CF in their final match of the group stage of the Generation adidas Cup.

Shaan Hundal had his second goal of the tournament and Josh Moreira had a second half brace in the loss.

The Reds finish the group with a win and two losses. They will not be moving on to the semifinals, but will play in two consolation matches.

The Kia TFC Academy opened up the scoring for the third straight match, seven minutes in.

Right-back Riley Ferrazzo sent in a cross into the box and Hundal soared into the air before placing his header into the bottom left corner of the net.

The Spanish side would equalize in the 24th minute.

Windy conditions helped carry a cross from the left flank over the hands of goalkeeper Cristian Rossi. The cross hit the post before bouncing into the path of a Valencia attacker who calmly put it in.

They then took the lead in the 33rd minute.

A free kick from about 30 yards was struck into the top corner of the Reds’ goal. Rossi, while fully stretched, got a hand onto it, but it wasn’t enough to keep the ball out.

Two minutes later Valencia made it 3-1 from just inside the box, placing a shot into the upper right corner.

That first half momentum would continue in the second half for the Spanish side, as they would add three more to extend their lead to 6-1.

TFC Academy’s Moreira would make it a 6-2 with 20 minutes remaining. It was a brilliant strike to say the least, as Moreira hit a right-footed shot into the top left corner from 30 yards out.

Moreira would add his second of the match in spectacular fashion, hitting a volley from just ahead of the halfway line that looped over the Valencia keeper and bounced in.

That would be the closest the Reds would get to mounting a comeback.

The Kia TFC Academy will now wait until the final results of the day are in to see who their opponents will be on Thursday, March 24.
