Week In Review: Reds Make Three Key Additions

Will Johnson Honduras

It wasn’t a secret by any means. Toronto FC’s defence struggled in 2015. Conceding 58 goals in the regular season simply wasn’t good enough according to President Bill Manning and the rest of the front office.

“I told [head coach] Greg [Vanney] next year we cannot let up more than 45 goals,” said Manning at the club’s year end press conference.

This week the club made significant additions at the back, signing free agent centre-back Drew Moor and acquiring right back Steven Beitashour from the Vancouver Whitecaps. TFC wrapped up a busy week with the acquisition of Will Johnson, a Canadian international and a member of the MLS Cup winning Portland Timbers.

Each of the players added to the roster this week spoke to the media. Here’s what they had to say.

Drew Moor

“They want to be a club of choice and the best organization in MLS,” Moor said. “I'm going to do everything I can to help with that mission and to win championships here. I appreciate this opportunity and can't wait to get started.”

Steven Beitashour
“Toronto’s doing a lot of good things right now,” Beitashour said. “They deserve a winning team and hopefully I can help bring that winning to the club. I’m excited for the next two years.”
Will Johnson

“I feel that I’m going to fit in well in Toronto,” said Johnson. “I can’t wait to get started. I know a lot of the pieces there and I think they’ve done a good job of building a team that can win and can win now. That’s something I look for in a team.”
