Toronto FC announced Friday that the club has acquired midfielder Dominic Oduro from the Columbus Crew in exchange for midfielder Álvaro Rey. As per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Dominic is a player that we have had our eye on for quite some time, and we are pleased to finalize this deal and bring him to Toronto FC,” said Toronto FC General Manager Tim Bezbatchenko. “He is a player that has a tremendous amount of speed, and adds a lot to a team’s attack. His experience in MLS is another important factor as he has proven that he can consistently score goals in this league from a variety of positions. Dominic is a welcomed addition to our club. We’d also like to thank Álvaro for his contributions to Toronto FC and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Oduro, 28, is currently in his ninth season in MLS and second with the Columbus Crew. Last season he led the Crew with 13 goals and four assists, while starting in all 34 regular season matches. Oduro has made a combined 235 league and playoff appearances, scoring 46 goals and adding 21 assists in his career, all in MLS. He was originally selected in the second round (22nd overall) in the 2006 MLS SuperDraft from Virginia Commonwealth University by FC Dallas. After spending the first three seasons of his professional career with FC Dallas, Oduro was traded to New York Red Bulls ahead of the 2009 MLS season. Later that same season the Red Bulls traded Oduro to the Houston Dynamo. He remained with the Dynamo until he was traded to the Chicago Fire, early into the 2011 MLS season. Oduro played two seasons with the Fire before being dealt to Columbus on February 1, 2013.

Oduro has earned one cap to date for Ghana. He made his debut on February 29, 2012 in a friendly match against Chile.

Rey, 24, signed for Toronto FC on July 25, 2013 and made 23 combined appearances between MLS league play and the Amway Canadian Championship; scoring one goal, and adding one assist. His first career MLS goal came in the 87th minute in a 4-1 victory over D.C. United on September 28, 2013.
