Toronto FC training was split in two sections on Tuesday. First team players took part in regular exercises, while Academy players, trialists and a handful of reserves were tested in a low key late afternoon friendly against University of Central Florida. More on that later.
The first team players may have had the afternoon off from training but they were in high demand with TSN shooting its 2012 broadcast promotional footage at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
Video: Torsten Frings at the TSN broadcast promo shoot.
The likes of Torsten Frings, Danny Koevermans, Julian de Guzman and others were carted (literally, in a golf cart) from one end of the gigantic complex to another, then seated in a room overlooking Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves training facility. As the baseball players were taking batting practice, Frings and co. simulated game action themselves, shooting what will be brought to life during this season’s Toronto FC matches on TSN.
You can view the Frings session embedded in this article or on our Toronto FC YouTube channel.
In the aforementioned informal friendly against UCF, Toronto drew 3-3. Midfielder Oscar Cordon, Academy players Sergio Camargo and Stefan Vukovic all appeared on the score sheet for the Reds.
TFC and its broadcast partners are getting closer to releasing the 2012 MLS television schedule. No date set yet, but all parties are inching toward a final decision. TorontoFC.ca will have the full broadcast lineup when available.
Toronto players have Wednesday off to prepare for back-to-back double training sessions on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic starts with the Reds facing local juggernaut Orlando City Soccer Club, the USL Pro champion that recently held Toronto rival Philadelphia Union to a 1-1 draw. The match can be seen live here at TorontoFC.ca via a Major League Soccer stream from 6 p.m. ET.
