Canadian Trialists On Board

Three Canadian trialists were with the Toronto FC squad when the team boarded their Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul at Pearson Airport just before midnight Thursday.

Defender Eddy Sidra, midfielder Gianluca Zavarise and goalkeeper David Monsalve will all be taking part in the first stage of training camp.

Sidra, 21, has represented Canada at U19, U23 and Senior Team level and has spent most of his professional career in Germany with Energie Cottbus. Zavarise was born in Burnaby, BC and has played for clubs in Italy, Germany and most recently Greece where he was with Iraklis Thessaloniki.

North York native Monsalve is a former MLS Pool goalkeeper who spent time with Toronto FC in 2007. He played for the Reds against Chicago Fire in July 2007 and also appeared in an international friendly against Aston Villa. The 22-year-old has spent the last two years playing for FC Inter Turku in Finland.

The squad is due to arrive in Istanbul at 11:00 a.m. ET on Friday morning and will then catch a short connecting flight to Antalya. More trialists will meet up with the squad in Turkey over the next 24 hours.

We will have more information on TorontoFC.ca regarding the other trialists as they arrive at camp.
