Preki Says It's Not Over Yet

After watching his side win 1-0 against Montreal Impact to move to six points at the top of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship standings, Toronto FC coach Preki is warning that there is still much work to do.

The Reds have two games remaining in the tournament against Vancouver and sit five points clear of the Whitecaps who have three matches left. “We haven’t won anything yet,” said Preki following the match. “There are still a couple of games to be played and nothing is over. We have to be ready for the next game.”

“It was a very important three points for us. It was a hard game and both teams competed very well. We knew they were going to be a tough team to play here. They are a good experienced team and have been together for a while, but we came here and were ready physically and mentally and we competed for 90 minutes. At times we played some good football and created a few chances. We finally scored on one chance and that was enough.”

Preki made a number of changes to the starting lineup and including the addition of Gabe Gala and Sam Cronin in midfield. Nick Garcia was brought in at left back and the coach was pleased with the performance of the veteran defender.

“I always knew Nick would do a good job for us because he is experienced and is a hard guy to play against. He is committed and comes to work every day always mentally ready for a challenge, I wasn’t surprised that he had a solid game.”

The Toronto squad left Montreal early Thursday morning to fly to Los Angeles ahead of Saturday’s match against the Galaxy.
