Preseason In Florida: The Weekend

Soccer Tennis, Small Sided Games and More

The Super Bowl has come and gone, and so has days six and seven of preseason training at the IMG Academy. The squad spent most of the weekend working on team shape and playing small sided games. TFC have yet to play a full field game, but you can tell that Ryan Nelsen is building up to it by making the field bigger each day. TFC's first preseason game is set for Wednesday, where they will take on another team looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2013, DC United. This game will be streamed on TorontoFC.ca & MLSSoccer.com starting at 7:00 PM ET.

After a very hard morning session on Saturday, Toronto's second session was a bit more fun as the coaches set up a Soccer Tennis tournament.  The teams of four were randomly selected teams, and the squads laid it on the line for honor and glory.

The Teams:

Team 1 Team 2 Team 3
Emery Welshman Matias Laba Ashtone Morgan
Ryan Richter Doneil Henry Justin Morrow
Nick Hagglund Mark Bloom Chris Mannella
Ryan Nelsen Jonathan Osorio Jim Brennan
Team 4 Team 5 Team 6
Kene Eze Michael Bradley Alvaro Rey
Andrew Wiedeman Jeremy Hall Kyle Bekker
Eli Roubos Gale Agbossoumonde Manny Aparicio
Bright Dike Dwayne De Rosario Reggie Lambe

The round robin was an even affair for five of the six teams, but there was one team that cruised all the way to the finals, Team 2 only dropped one match out of five in the group stage.  Team 4 & 5 finished with matching records and had a play-in match to see who would get to the finals against Osorio and company.

The Finals:

Matias Laba, Doneil Henry, Mark Bloom & Jonathan Osorio

vs.

Michael Bradley, Jeremy Hall, Gale Agbossoumonde & Dwayne De Rosario.

After some early serving trouble from Team 5, Laba, Osorio, Henry & Bloom were just too much too handle, and waltzed to a comfortable 11-7 win.
