Reds Sign Spanish Winger

24-year old Alvaro Rey joins Toronto FC from Xerez CD.

Toronto FC announced Thursday that the club has signed midfielder Álvaro Rey Vázquez (Álvaro Rey). As per team and league policy terms of the deal were not disclosed. He will be added to the roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

“Alvaro trained with the team for several weeks last month, and played in a reserve match with us against Montreal. He’s very technical and quick, and is good at taking on defenders,” said Toronto FC President and General Manager Kevin Payne. “He offers something different than we typically see in MLS and we think he’ll help our team become more dangerous.”

Álvaro Rey, 24, most recently played for Xerez Club Deportivo of Spain’s Segunda División (second division). At Xerez, he appeared in 28 matches, scoring three goals in one season with the club. He began his professional career at Gimnàstic de Tarragona of Spain, and remained with the club for two seasons before joining Xerez.
