Reserves Win Two On The Trot

Toronto FC remains undefeated in the MLS Reserve League after a 3-1 win over Columbus Crew on Saturday at BMO Field.
Toronto received goals from Jonathan Osorio, Jeremy Brockie and Kia Toronto FC Academy’s Dylan Sacramento. Columbus’ lone goal arrived from Bernardo Anor.
Osorio’s goal came at the 43rd minute following a pass from Brockie. The homegrown TFC midfielder danced past three yellow shirts before slotting the ball in the left corner of goal to give Toronto a 1-0 lead.
A minute later Brockie opened his Toronto account following his arrival from New Zealand earlier this week. The A-League player on loan to TFC received an ideal through-ball from John Bostock (who is on loan from Tottenham). Brockie struck from the edge of the box past an advancing Matt Lampson in the Columbus goal to put Toronto 2-0 ahead.
The match marked the return of forward Danny Koevermans, sidelined with an ACL tear since last July. The designated player made a 45-minute appearance in the first half and nearly put Toronto ahead at the eighth minute. Brockie found Andrew Wiedeman on the left side of the pitch, where he made the cross towards Koevermans for a header that landed wide of goal at the far post.
Koevermans was replaced by Academy’s Manuel Aparicio to start the second half.
Columbus came within a goal at the 70th minute, when a cross from the left flank via Kyle Hyland arrived at the boot of Anor during a goal-mouth scramble. The Venezuelan struck to cut the deficit by one with 20 minutes to play.
Toronto restored its two goal advantage seconds after Anor’s finish. Second half substitute Sacramento took a pass from Aparicio on the left side of the Columbus 18. From there he fired a rocket that sneaked under Lampson’s arm at the near post making it 3-1 for the Reds.
The Crew tried to get back into the match after Sacramento’s goal, with a chance coming at the 78th minute via Aaron Horton that went wide of Stefan Frei’s goal. Three minutes into stoppage time Konrad Warzycha had a free kick from just outside the 18 that sailed wide of target.
Toronto won its first Reserve League match on April 6 beating FC Dallas 2-0. The next match is to be announced.
