Day 4: A Safe Haven

Youth Without Shelter gets a visit from Quillan Roberts on the fourth day of TFC//TWELVE.

Day four of TFC//TWELVE took Toronto FC to Youth Without Shelter, bringing together an enthusiastic team of volunteers including TFC office staff, a few wonderful fans and goalkeeper Quillan Roberts.

Located in Etobicoke, YWS was established in 1986 by teachers and guidance counsellors in response to the “lack of safe, emergency housing and support programs for their students,” according to its website.

YWS states since established it has helped more than 14,000 homeless youth to build their confidence and life-skills and to find long-term stable housing and jobs.

Helping 16-24 year olds, YWS is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

To maintain, grow and improve their facility, the shelter relies on the community for donations and volunteers.  Depending on the need of the facility and the time of year, volunteering opportunities vary, but there are always interesting projects for individuals or groups to work on.

Toronto FC thanks YWS for opening its doors and allowing the club to be a part of their community.
