Toronto FC Reserves dropped a 1-0 decision to Montreal Impact on Wednesday at Downsview Park. A cracking strike by Montreal’s Mike Fucito was the difference between the sides.

The Reds sent a very young team, comprised of many Academy players, up against an experienced Impact squad that featured Fucito and Saturday’s first team goal scorer Sinisa Ubiparipovic.

The veteran Fucito nearly got the visitors on the board at the 21st minute but his shot flew just wide of Quillan Roberts’ Toronto goal.

At the 33rd minute TFC had a set-piece opportunity via Efrain Burgos Jr., though a menacing ball into the Montreal area bounced out wide.

Fighting a strong head wind, Roberts found it difficult to move the ball forward and it cost the Reds a minute later when Fucito took advantage on a quick counter, finding the back of Toronto’s net with a marvelous strike from near the corner flag that put the visitors up 1-0.

At the restart, Toronto had a pair of chances in quick succession but Burgos’ attempt at the 56th minute sailed over the Montreal goal, then Keith Makubuya headed wide from an Oscar Cordon cross in the next minute.

Toronto defender Adrian Cann was substituted at the 63rd minute in his bid to complete his return from a torn ACL suffered last season. Cann played 45 minutes in Toronto’s previous Reserve League match and head coach Aron Winter has mused about the possibility of the Canadian international's return to the first team.

Three minutes after Cann’s departure, Carl Haworth found himself on a partial breakaway to seal the match in Montreal’s favour, but Roberts quickly came off his line and blocked the shot.

Toronto FC Academy winger Omari Morris added some pace to the Reds’ attack in the second half, but an equalizer was not forthcoming. At the 86th minute Morris rounded the Montreal keeper before being quickly closed down by a defender to nullify the chance.

Toronto has lost both of its Reserve League matches by a 1-0 score. For Montreal’s second team it was their second win in three matches.
