Lengthy Break Ends For New Look TFC
Toronto FC had a full team training session Tuesday morning ahead of its return to action Wednesday versus FC Dallas at BMO Field (TSN, 8 p.m. ET).
The Reds have been out of action since July 9, a 2-0 loss to Houston. Since then Toronto has exchanged many players and as of early Tuesday afternoon, it was still unclear what the lineup may look like on Wednesday.
Of the newly acquired players, Torsten Frings, Danny Koevermans, Ryan Johnson and Andy Iro all took part in full first team scrimmage. Terry Dunfield and Leandre Griffit however, trained away from the larger group, both players still tending to slight knocks picked up with their former clubs.
Save of The Week: Frei
Check out week 25's Save of the Week nominee, Stefan Frei from Toronto FC against the Rapids.
French footballer Eddy Viator trained with Toronto on Tuesday. The 29-year old defender has represented Guadeloupe and has been on trial with TFC. There is no indication if the Reds will move forward with Viator. Testing his versatility, Toronto coaches tested him at the centre back and right fullback positions during training.
GOL TV Canada interviewed head coach Aron Winter, goalkeeper Stefan Frei and Koevermans at the conclusion of training. Those videos will be available on Toronto FC TV on Tuesday afternoon.
NOTES: Winter is holding a private fireside chat with invited members of Toronto’s soccer media on Tuesday afternoon to address the many changes to his squad.
