Academy Quartet To Travel
Four Players From Toronto FC’s Academy will travel with the first team squad for the preseason trip to Turkey. Oscar Cordon, Ashtone Morgan, Matt Stinson and Keith Makubuya are all being given the opportunity to impress new Head Coach and Technical Director Aron Winter.
With an increased roster size this season and more opportunities to sign homegrown players, the quartet will be looking to earn themselves an MLS contract.
“As we move forward and integrate the same style of play throughout the club, hopefully we will be able to produce the type of players the first team is looking for on a regular basis.”
Morgan and Cordon have already had a taste of first team action, making appearances during the 2010 season. Cordon was included in the squad for the final match of the Nutrilite Canadian Championship, a goalless draw at home to Vancouver Whitecaps on June 2, but was an unused substitute. He then played in the Carlsberg Cup International Friendly against Bolton Wanderers at BMO Field in July.
Morgan started at left back in the final game of the CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage, a 1-0 win against Arabe Unido of Panama in October. Makubuya is a forward from St. Catherines who turns 18 tomorrow (Wednesday 26th). Stinson is a former Academy team captain who left the program to move to college in the United States. After a standout year at Winthrop University where he was named Team MVP and was the only player to start all 18 games, he has returned to Toronto.
