Toronto FC won its first Champions League group match 2-1 over Cruz Azul at BMO Field. This match will be the Reds' first of three straight group games on the road in the six-game round robin stage. Toronto is tied with Salt Lake at the top of Group A with three points each.

Arabe Unido lost its first group match 2-1 to Salt Lake on a 94th minute penalty kick. The Panama side lost two players to ejections in that match and showed an ability to frustrate opponents via theatrics.
