Reds In Carson For Crucial CCL Clash

Asif Hossain -
Danny Doesn't Buy It

Toronto hitman Danny Koevermans dismisses the idea that LA Galaxy will rest players on Wednesday night against Toronto FC in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal second leg (Sportsnet One at 10 p.m. ET). The Dutch striker said on Tuesday that "it's going to be difficult" to beat LA, and that he and his teammates have plenty of respect for the MLS league and Cup champions.

Coach Chimes In

Toronto head coach Aron Winter didn't discuss his counterpart in the CCL match, but he was ecstatic to have the services of Canadian international midfielder Julian de Guzman and Dutch winger Nick Soolsma in the return fixture against Los Angeles.

See what the coach had to say about Wednesday's all-important clash in Carson.

JDG Returns

Toronto's own de Guzman likened Wednesday's challenge to the group stage finale in Frisco, where Toronto as an underdog overcame the impossible odds to down Dallas 3-0 away to advance to the CCL quarterfinals.

The Canadian believes Toronto can mimic the October 18 result and come out victorious.

A Special Message

Viewing Party

While Joao Plata is certain that Toronto FC can beat LA, you can watch the Ecuador international and his teammates do just that at Real Sports Bar & Grill Wednesday night at the official viewing party. Make sure to book your table at the bar to support your Reds.

While the match is on Sportsnet One, Canada's only 24-hour soccer channel, GOL TV Canada will be hosting a live pregame show at 9:30 p.m. ET. Tune in for the latest news ahead of the match.

The Opposition

TFC defender Richard Eckersley was in a jovial mood at training this week, but the same can not be said for LA Galaxy, who spent the week deflecting questions about team fatigue brought on by head coach Bruce Arena, following their 3-1 defeat at home to Real Salt Lake at the weekend.

Prior to Wednesday's clash Los Angeles fullback Todd Dunivant dismissed fatigue as a factor, saying the loss to RSL was down to "mental mistakes" and that the Hollywood hopefuls would bounce back.

The Officials

An all-Panamanian officiating crew awaits the CCL match Wednesday. Referee Roberto Moreno doled out eight yellow cards in his last outing in the Champions League. Incidentally, that took place in Mexico in a match between Morelia and Alajuelense the same evening that Toronto routed Dallas 3-0.
